Rooibos is actually not a tea, but a caffeine free delecious red herb from South Africa loaded with antioxidants, anti-aging properties, vitamins, minerals and even safe to give to an infant with Colic. It is wonderful for making many beverages and a way to add nutrients to other appetizing recipes.
Citrus Rooibos
20 ozs. Hot Rooibos
1 1/3 oz. Sugar (50ml)
8 ozs. Lemon or lime juice
8 ozs. Orange juice
1 Lemon or lime, sliced
1 sliced Orange
Fresh mint leaf
Cherries
Add sugar to the Rooibos and stir until dissolved.
Add fruit juice and slices. Chill in refrigerator.
Serve cold with ice and decorate with fresh mint and cherries with toothpicks inserted.
Makes 8 glasses. Optional: Serve in frosted glasses.
Rooibos Sunset
5 ozs. Strong Rooibos
8 ozs. Vodka
12 ozs. ml Cranberry juice
5 ozs. Grapefruit juice
1 Orange sliced
Ice cubes
Combine fruit juices and Rooibos, chill and mix with vodka.
Pour into glasses over ice cubes and decorate with orange slices.
Makes 4 glasses.
Hot Cinnamon Citrus Rooibos
10 ozs. of strong Rooibos
Lemon peels
2 ozs. Sugar (75ml - about 2 ozs.)
1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
1/4 oz. Ground cloves
Red wine (about 20 ozs.)
Peel lemon in strips or dice.
Place all dry ingredients in a drip coffee maker with filter and pour water to brew like coffee.
Stir in sugar when the tea is finished brewing. Let stand and chill.
Pour into glasses with wine, stir and serve with a slice of lemon. Add ice if desired. Makes 5 glasses.
Red Vanilla Latte
1 teaspoon Rooibos extract
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 Tablespoon Sugar
20 ozs. of Half & Half or condensed milk
8-10 ice cubes
Stir Rooibos and vanilla extract in Half & Half well. Place ice in blender. Pour in mixer and blend on medium for 30 seconds.
Makes one quart or four 8 oz. glasses. Top each glass with whip cream and cherry.
Orange Morning Delight
1/4 teaspoon Rooibos extract
1/4 Teaspoon Sugar
4 ozs. of water
4 ozs. of orange juice
3 ice cubes
Stir Rooibos extract and sugar in water. Add orange juice and stir well. Top with ice cubes. Single serving recipe.
Red Thai Ice Tea
2 teaspoons Rooibos extract
6 Cups hot water
4 cardamom pod, crushed
1 whole clove, crushed
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup half-and-half
Stir Rooibos extract, cardamom pods, crushed clove and cinnamon in boling water well. Let stand and steep for 5 minutes covered.
Pour mixture through a coffee filter or cotton muslim bag. Add sugar, stirring until dissolved and chill in refrigerator for 2 hours.
Serve in a glass over crushed ice topping each with 3 to 4 tablespoons half-and-half (do not mix).
Rooibos Shake
1 teaspoon Rooibos extract
16 ozs. of water
1 1/2 pints vanilla ice cream
Juice from 1/2 lemon
12 ozs. sparkling lemon soda
Stir Rooibos extract in water. Add Rooibos tea to the vanilla ice cream and 1/2 lemon juice in a punch bowl. Slowly pour lemon soda over top and briefly stir. Serve in large tumblers.
Rooibos Ice Cream
1 teaspoon Rooibos extract
1 Quart vanilla ice cream
Let Vanilla ice cream stand until very soft and stir Rooibos extract into it until mixed well. Refreeze and serve.
Red Orange Sherbet Ice Cream
1 teaspoon Rooibos extract
1 Quart orange sherbet ice cream
Let orange sherbet ice cream stand until very soft and stir Rooibos extract into it until mixed well. Refreeze and serve.
